The Shelby Township Fire Department requires a locking Knox key box on all commercial property as defined by the Fire Code Official, or where immediate access is necessary for life-saving or firefighting purposes per the 2015 International Fire Protection District, Section 506.1 as amended. Each local Knox system purchased by a property owner is keyed to a master key controlled by the Shelby Township Fire Department. When a fire breaks out, or there is any emergency, the Knox system allows firefighters and paramedics immediate entry into buildings and property without forced entry, damage or delay. The Knox Rapid Access System is a secure emergency access program developed for property owners and fire departments. This course must have a minimum of 3 students to be held. The program length is approximately four to six hours. The certificate is valid for two years from the date of issue. A certificate is issued following an 84% passing grade for the required written and skills examinations. Heartsaver CPR teaches the mechanics of cardio pulmonary resuscitation and treatment of an obstructed airway in adults, children and infants. This Heartsaver CPR is intended for lay responders such as teachers, daycare providers and all persons whose employer requires basic CPR training. The 2023 course fee is $80 per person, which includes a certificate, manual, and pocket mask. The Heartsaver CPR Course is held every month.
A certificate is issued following an 84% passing grade for the required written and skills examination. Automatic external defibrillating is covered for use on adults only. This course will teach you the mechanics of one and two person CPR and obstructed airway in adults, children and infants.
The Healthcare Provider Course is designed for the professional emergency care provider such as nurses and paramedics and those who wish to expand their skills beyond the Heartsaver CPR Course. The 2023 course fee is $90 per person, which includes a certificate, manual, and pocket mask. The Healthcare Provider Course is held every month.
The Shelby Township Fire Department offers Healthcare Provider CPR and Heartsaver CPR courses designed by the American Heart Association.
